Hotrods and classic cars (1, 4, 6, 7) line up for show on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the American Sportsman Car Club in the Ruby’s parking lot at Whittwood Center in Whittier, California. (2) A 1963 "Corvette killer" Cobra, owned by Rick Patynik, who said that one of the reasons he liked the Cobra is that it, "looks better than the Chevy." Patynik said that car shows like this are great ways to meet good people and have a lot of fun. A 1932 Ford 2 Door Sedan hot rod, (3, 5) owned by Rich Rackemann from San Pedro, is parked for show. Rackemann said that he has been working on hot rods since he was young. Pressed for what model his 1932 Sedan was, Rackemann said that it was a Model B, but, "Nobody in the hot rod world calls it that." It is customized with disc breaks, A/C and heating and boasts the power of a 303 engine similar to Mustangs. (8) A 1948 Dodge Dually Flatbed truck is parked for display. Groms were everywhere on the north side of the Pier on Monday, September 28, 2020 in Huntington Beach. These may be young surfers, but they REALLY shred. Two of them are brother and sister, Sara, 13 (pics 2 and 3) and Cruz, 7 (pics 1 and 2), Freyer (together in pic 10). I met their dad, Alex Freyer on the shore and asked him about his kid's future. They eat a plant and protein based diet and have unique personalities that endear them to their owners. I took this picture years ago on the way to a bapt

I took this picture years ago on the way to a baptism. I found it fascinating because it was a suspension bridge out in the middle of the woods and motorists traveled one way at a time.  The Beaver Bridge is sometimes called the "Little Golden Gate" bridge. It is 554 feet long and allows motorists on highway 18 to travel across the White River. Because it is 11 feet wide, traffic can only travel in one direction at a time. The bridge was built in 1949, and is the only suspension bridge left in Arkansas.  The bridge was featured in the movie, "Elizabethtown” and a nearby railroad bridge was used in the Television movie, "The Blue and the Gray."  I remember waiting at the light for a bit in order to allow vehicles coming from the opposite direction to go by. Then the light turned green and I was able to travel across the wooden beams to the other side. I am sure those who are from this area aren't too excited about it, but I absolutely loved the bridge for its nostalgia and usefulness. I hope and pray that they never remove it, nor expand it for two-way traffic. It is fine just the way it is.

As I drove over the hill on highway 18, turned a curve and drove passed some trees, the view of these mountains was opened before me and was stunning. From the dark shades below to the blue sky reflecting on the highest peaks, my breath was taken and I had to pull over and momentarily stop my journey to the Lake this crisp, 65 degree, morning.   I sprung out of the car, chose a lens from the camera pack and proceeded to the edge and pressed the shutter again and again until I had the right composition for my liking.   The dusty light only slighty showing the crevices on the sides of the mountians, revealing the true majesty of what lay before me. It created a sense of connection and transcedence at the same time. I am above; I am in; I am a part of... The photo and the photographer are, at this moment, one with the landscape. ><)))>

This was my favorite photo capture from the trip. I saw this scene on our descent from the peaks and lakes of the San Bernardino Mountains. I waited for just the right vehicle to drive into view and from the moment I pressed the shutter button I knew this would be a black and white photo. The rocks, the road, the truck; each voice revealing secrets from roads traveled and travelers on this specific road in a colorless world. Oh how peaceful it is to see through the lens and how tumultuous in the harried passing of wheeled machines in tangible reality. A photo is a moment in time; truly a capture a moment where time itself is held in captivity for all to see. It is both ordinary and vital. Lovely are the mountains and the rocks and roads and the vehicles that ferry us from one reality to another. ><)))>

It was early in the morning and I had some energy

It was early in the morning and I had some energy so I decided to take a little trip from the cabin we were staying at to the rim of the San Bernardino Mountains in Arrowhead, California. We were there with Monica’s brother and his wife and their daughter. The cabin is a wonderful place to unwind and get some rest, and we are grateful to her uncle for letting us stay there for a few days. While driving along the road, this beautiful landscape came into view. There is something about the mountains in the morning that brings peace. Perhaps it is the enormity. Standing there, I realized just how small I was. Mountains also give me a sense of constancy. There is no anomie to flatten them. They bring stability, which bring a kind of hope; we are not all there is, there are things that transcend. I am both above and beneath the fray. Here among the peaks I am small, but standing on their shoulders I am taller than any man-made structure below. This gives me a sense of what it must be like to walk in the presence of the Almighty. I walk with kings and the King of kings here among the evergreens and rocks and lakes and streams. The sun shines brightly; I will travel another day on this journey. God willing. ><)))>
